| The church of Our Lady of Constantinople was rebuilt in 1936 on an existing rural church. The location of the building on the outskirts of the village, along the road that leads to Otranto, is linked to an event that tradition places it around 1480. After the sack of Otranto, Turkish troops began to raid the small villages. The legend says that when the Turks arrived on the outskirts of Cannole appeared to them Our Lady of Constantinople to bar the way to the village.
The church is very simple, and today an image of the Virgin and Child replaces the old fresco. |
