| The convent of the Dominicans was built in 1561 by the will of the Prince of Muro Leccese Giovan Battista I Protonobilissimo. The monastery was built on the ancient Byzantine monastery of San Zaccaria, a dependency of the famous Monastery of San Nicola di Casole, near Otranto.
In 1583 Cornelia De Monti, wife of John the Baptist, ordered the construction of the monumental baroque church.
Today, the structure of the convent, restored, hosts conferences and events. |
