| The Cathedral of Saint Thomas, proudly preserves its holy relics. Historical evidences of the great importance that the arrival of the Apostle Thomas' relics in 1258 had for the town of Ortona, are certainly the two plenary indulgences granted by Pope Boniface IX in 1398 and by Pope Sistus Iv in 1479. |
| The Pardon Day, that enlivens the streets of the town during the first Sunday of May, is strictly related to the indulgences. During the historical re-enactment of the Keys Procession civil authorities go to the Cathedral for the official delivery of the silver Keys that, together with those held by the ecclesiastical authorities, allow the opening of the shrine that contains the Apostle's bust. |
