| Since 1973, the Salzburg Baroque museum is located in the southern wing of the orangerie of Mirabell Castle. It is based on the private collection of Kurt and Else Rossacher, which they donated to the city and province of Salzburg to display it to the public. The collection consists mostly of sketches for monumental artworks, and includes drawings and paintings by Rubens, Maffei, Bernini and Algardi, but also Cortona, the local hero Rottmayr, Altomonte, Troger, Tiepolo, the Guardis, Maulbertsch and Fragonard.
European art of the 17th and 18th c. is housed in a former Orangery building. The ground floor of the Baroque Museum houses the Rossacher collection with some impressive works. |
