The Museum of Historic Musical Instruments is a branch of the Salzburg Museum and located in the Bürgerspital, a former hospital in the Altstadt or Old Town of Salzburg. The museum shows musical instruments from four centuries and illustrates the items on display with music recordings to demonstrate how they would sound. The exhibition tells a few things about how instruments were built, which materials that were used and how they were played. The Museum of Historic Musical Instruments is a small museum, so don′t expect it to be of dramatic interest; however, if you have a specialist interest in music and history of music, it might be a very nice supplement to other music-related attractions of Salzburg. People who don′t have any particular interest in music will still find a few items that are noteworthy; the highlight is clearly a piano of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Another nice object is the clavichord that belonged to Mozart′s sister Nannerl.
