| Over the centuries, the garden and park at Schloss Eggenberg were always considered as equally important as the house and its furnishings. Since the first park was created in the 17th century, it has changed with the fashion of the times and the tastes of its owners. These days, the house is set in a extensive landscaped park dating from the Romantic period, when Jérôme, Count Herberstein had it laid out in the English style to embody the picturesque ideal of his day – “a perfect landscape painting reflecting the diversity of nature.” This masterpiece of landscape gardening is now one of the most precious historic gardens in Styria. |
