| t is a truly powerful symbol of peace: Ten tonnes of cast bronze and a clapper weighing over a half tonne swing and ring in the Peace Bell at Mösern. The bell is 2.51 metres tall and has a diameter of 2.54 metres. Daily at 5.00 pm it announces its message of peace in D#/1 – D#/0 – D# - F#/- A#/0. The bell was installed to make the 25th anniversary of the Working Community of Alpine Countries (ARGE ALP) as a symbol of cross-border cooperation and peace in the Alps. It was designed by Tyrolean architect Hubert Prachensky, and cast by the famous Grassmayr bell foundry in Innsbruck.
Not only is the sound of the Peace Bell imposing, but so is its appearance, as it stands outdoors in the wonderful landscape of the Alps. There is a wonderful view across the Inn Valley from its location. The Peace Bell Hiking Trail leads directly to the bell and is an invitation to reflection and an intense observation of nature. It can be walked all year round and is kept clear in winter. Starting from the car park at the Seewald meadow, the trail can be walked in about 90 minutes, with seven marked areas along the way inviting hikers to look in wonder at the views. The bell's message of peace and good neighbourliness can be deepened on this trail through personal thought and meditative walking.
The Peace Bell is rung daily at 5:00 pm. The hiking trail is freely accessible at all times. |
