Description:
once known as Santa Maria Veterana. Of the original plan, typical of the Benedettine structures of the 11th Century, only the square bell tower and the cloister remain. The cloister is sorrounded by threelight windows supported by capitals decorated with stylized plants and animal like figures. The elegant church portal is richly decorated with motifs that remind us the figurative art present in oriental textiles and jewelry. The interior has cross-ribbed vaults and the nave is separated from aisles by reused columns. The only capital decorated with animal-like figures brings back to mind the capitals of the Abbey of Sant'Andrea dell'Isola now housed in the Archeological Museum.
