| The castle was built during a period of particular splendour, under the influence of Emperor Frederick IIduring the first half of the XIII century. The castle was thenrestored by the Angionians around the XV century and then extended by the Aragons. Lastly, in the XVI century further work was carried out by Charles V who definitively reinforced the structure.
The establishment and numerous changes that characterised Brindisi castle are each linked to particularly significant figures in the history of Puglia and Italy, such as Frederick II, the main client of the many regional fortifications and Charles of Augsburg, who in 1519 became emperor under the name Charles V
