| Built in honour of the marriage between Ruggero, son of Tancredi, and Princess Irene, daughter of the Emperor of Constantinople, in 1192, the fountain is located outside the historic centre on Via San Vito. It seems to have been used mainly for horses that from there, via a main road, headed for the city centre.
On the occasion of a major restoration of the fountain there were changes made by Ferrante Loffredo, you can see his coat of arms on the left, together with that of the city of Brindisi on the right. In the centre is the coat of arms of Carlo V.
