| The lodge dates back to the 14th century, it was designed to be part of a large building which stood in that area and that occupied an entire block, probably identifiable with the Angevin Mint. Currently part of the Balsamo family palace from which it takes its name.
It features nine ornamentations with depictions of allegorical figures relating to medieval Numerology which probably refers to: 9 ornamental brackets with 4 figures for each making a total of 36. The 4 represents the Earth and the 9, a multiple of 3, is symbolic of the order which governs the world
