| Commissioned and funded by the Confraternity of the Souls in Purgatory, the church was completed in 1670 and was opened for worship the following year by Archbishop Francesco de Estrada. Subsequent restorations have changed the flooring, the roof and the front steps. Today the church has a single nave, contains important paintings such as "San Gennaro protects from the earthquake", signed by John Scatigno (1747). The "Martyrdom of St. Sebastian" painted on the altar is the work by Umberto Colonna (1950).
