10km/6mi north of Knittelfeld via the village of Kobenz stands Seckau Abbey, outside the little market town of Seckau. This famous abbey, enclosed within its walls, was founded by Augustinian Canons between 1140-42, dissolved in 1782 and reoccupied by Benedictines from Beuern in 1883. The present buildings mostly date from the 17th C.; worthy of note are the beautiful arcaded courtyard, an interior with rich stucco decoration (Imperial Hall, Hall of Allegiance) and the old furnishings in the guest rooms.
