| Burg Bernstein (www.culture.privateweb.at/bernstein) is owned by the heirs of the Counts of Almasy. You might hear the "The English Patient" (good movie) or read the novel (better book). The name giving "English" patient was Laszlo Almasy and in fact a Hungarian count - the real Almasy′s family still lives on this scenic castle. Almasy himself was in fact a pilot, successful car mechanic and racer and buried in Salzburg.
Bernstein Castle is a small hotel with only ten guestrooms, which are rented since 1918 to summerguests and where you are received as a member of the family. "During the centuries we always had guests. Why shouldn´t we find paying guests as well?" was the first idea to run a hotel. The rooms are renovated in the original style and contain their originial furniture. The flair of past centuries is always present. Please do not expect the standard of a 5 or 4 star hotel, where much of the original interior was destroyed. |
