In 1539 Carlo 5th ordered to rebuild a new castle. The present castle is an imposing fortress whose shape is an irregular quadrilateral with 4 powerful lance and shaped bulwarks dedicated to S. Trinity, Santa Croce, San Martino and San Giacomo: the bulwarks facing the country are bigger than those facing the city. The castle consists of 2 concentric bodies set apart from an internal court-yard, of Norman origin, widely altered.
