Description:
The church of S. Pietro was built in the 12th century on the foundations of a Temple of Apollo dating from the 3rd century BC and reconstructed after the 1915 earthquake with the original materials. The apse features elegant bas-relief works. The interior is distinguished by a splendid Cosmatesque ambon (13th cent.) by the Roman sculptor Giovanni di Guido. Also worthy of note is an attractive iconostasis from the same period, with four spiralled columns.
