The church of Santa Maria Assunta has the greatest Romanesque art expression in the entire Abruzzo region. It was built on a rock, between the XI and the beginning of the XII century, using material came from Peltuinum. The church plan has three naves and apses. The column section is formed by twelve different columns, that homever have a classical and unitary disposition. The magnificent stone ambo, that dates 1180, is in its typical four angled shape placed on four columns of rich capitals and architraves that are adorned by foliage "girali". The inside houses the ciborium (1223) and the huge twisted column of the easter candle supponed by the stiloforo lion cub with an elaborated capital.
