| The Aragone Fortress is one of the most important military engineering constructions in Italy. The fortress was commissioned by Philip II of Spain to defend the town, which was situated in a strategic position for controlling the borde with the Papal State. The fort is encircled within impenetrable walls and a series of rampants. Inside are a series of esplanade, the remains of the Palazzo del Governatore and the church of S. Giacomo. The old kitchens and dining halls now house the Museo delle Armi, which also as maps and plans, as well as a collection of weaporny dating from the Middle Ages to the Second World War. |
