| The current appearance of the abbey of S. Pietro is the results of various alterations carried out over time. Some of the important works completed by Abbot Giovanni Imbriani in the 16th century include opening an entrance to the Purgatorio chapel (1534), below the church, the main entrance(1549) and alterations to the choir. The clean lines of the Renaissance door contrast with the volutes and baroque decor of the interior with a nave and two aisles. The chapels have frescoes and Castellan ceramic flooring, with the largest dedicated to St. Thomas of Aquinas and St. Zopito the martyr, the patron saint honoured on Pentescoste Monday with procession, with a child rides a while bull decked with garlands. |
