| The Church of St. Anthony the Abbot of Montone has drawn its importance mainly to the presence in it of the famous sarcophagus of Bucciarello da Montone.
Probably at the beginning of "Curtis", the only church in the town was annexed to a monastery run by Benedictine monks or maybe Anthony and, then, Celestine.
At the beginning of 1800 Blaise de Bartolomeis restored the church in Baroque style, turning it into a kind of chapel.
The sarcophagus is carved in stone and in the Gothic style, dated 1390. |
