| The church of S. Maria del Carmine was built in early 1600, on the site of an ancient hermitage. What we see today dates back to the mid-18th C. project managed by Neapolitan Francesco di Sio and by Penne-born Aniello Francia. Francia created the priceless baroque façade, cadenced by the double row of extrados columns. The church, with its nave and side chapels, deep presbytery and cupola transept, located almost half-way down the chamber, is an outstanding regional example of a latin cross plan. |
