| The complex of S. Panfilo fuori le mura, of ancient Benedectine origin, was restored in the late 15th century by the Olivetans, preserving the original features of the nave and two aisles, separated by large round arches on columns and closed by a flat roof. In 1617 the franciscans began the work of adapting and enhancing the interior decorations. These works were followed by others during the first decade of the 1700s, which gave the inside of the church the amazing air of a baroque theatre. |
