| the foundation of the original chapel, in the fourteenth century, is shrouded in legend. Our Lady would appear to some to indicate the place where farmers digging a well, which was eventually found an icon depicting the Virgin and Child.
In place of the "miracle" was decided to build a chapel in which to preserve and perpetuate the cult of the sacred image worship which in turn was then imported into Fasano electing the Madonna del Pozzo, protector and patron of the city (with St. John Baptist). The construction of the first core of the complex architecture refers to the Angevin period, and allows its dating period between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Inside the sanctuary, restored a few years ago, stand out, in addition to the fresco above the "icon" of the Byzantine style (detached from the rock of the cave and exposed on the central altar), also some fine stone statues. In 1678, following yet another invasion by Turkish pirates, legend has it that Madonna of Pozzo Faceto appeared in the sky to protect the City of Fasano freeing it from invaders.
