| The Regional Natural Reserve "Bosco Tramazzone" which by the European Directive 92/43 EEC was included in the list of Sites of Community Importance, extends along the Channel Siedi occupying an area of 1,158 hectares. The Wood Tramazzone (or Cerano) is an extensive wood that consists an important selection of tree species. The conservation area protects the residual portion of a coastal forest characterized by the presence of Mediterranean maquis and holm oak trees. Over the centuries the process of human activity has reduced the forest. Among the mammals are the badger, the beech-marten and hedgehog. Among the warbler nesting birds, the Chaffinch, the Blackcap and Great Tit. In spring you can watch the golden oriole and turtle-dove and nocturnal raptorial as barn owl and harrier between daytime and the harrier and hawks. Among the reptiles many snakes; among amphibians, toad and frog. The wooded area consists mainly of holm oak and Virgil, with parts of Aleppo pine, reforestation introduced. Considerably the presence of plants such as elm (Ulmus minor) and hornbeam (Ostrya carpinifolia). The undergrowth consists of mastic tree, myrtle, buckthorn, Smilax, bramble and common gorse, the typical vegetation of the Mediterranean maquis. |
