It was in 1853 that the chapel of the Madonna of Constantinople led for the first time the name "Mary of the Holy Bread," as evidenced in the minutes of the holy Pastoral Visit also reported that "the need to record a report of many prodigious facts written by the Rev . D. Vincenzo Tarantini ". The facts in question were referring to the legendary apparition of the Virgin to a commoner named Giovanna took place in 1707, Our Lady appeared to Giovanna precisely in places where the chapel was built (called "cuneddha"), to give her the miraculous bread that would have defeated a deadly epidemic then raging in the community.
