| It was built in the early sixteenth century by the barons Mattei, thus linking his story to the story of this family who held the territory for two centuries, from 1520 to 1706. This certainly testifies to the building of the castle, built by Paolo Mattei right after taking the feud to Novoli, the building became, later, home to a rich library by Alessandro Mattei II known as the "great humanist and benefactor". Towards the middle of 600 the building was expanded and modified, while the later changes were desired by the last descendants of the House of Mattei built in 1700, a discovery walk in the courtyard and fountain by Giuseppe Cino. Inside the castle, then, were the corners of a room, some coats of arms of families who have stayed. |
