The collection contains 2,617 graves of Commonwealth soldiers who fell in the fierce battles in November-December 1943 along the Adriatic coast to overcome the tenacious defense of the Germans on horseback fi ume Sangro. The cemetery is located on a large decline in the hills north of Torino di Sangro, a little over one kilometer from the mouth of the Sangro. The rows of graves, marked by the characteristics of white marble headstones are arranged in a semicircle along the slope, as in an amphitheater. From the entrance, a paved path flanked by rows of magnolias cites the "Cross of Sacrifice," a different path with hedges of hawthorn leads to the "Stone of Remembrance" at the opposite fence.
