| The New Theatre Verdi is built above the extremely important archaeological area of San Pietro degli Schiavoni. Designed in the 1960s, the building is a huge giant steel structure that stands out among the Roman antiquities, including historic buildings and streets of the old Schiavoni neighbourhood. Its main façade houses a bronze bas-relief of Hungarian artist Amerigo Tot. The Interior of the theatre has a room of 650 square meters and can accommodate about a thousand people (658 in the stalls and 337 in the Gallery) with a stage which is among the largest in Italy. From The foyer the archaeological site is visible below through a large glass floor, a view which gives a unique glimpse into the past. |
