| The complex of St. Scolastica is located in the historic centre. It was founded by Benedictine monks in the eighth or eleventh century; the nuns remained until 1856, today houses the Archaeological Museum of the Province of Bari Province. The complex is in the Romanesque style, renovated in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The Baroque facade of the church, divided into three by two pilasters, and decorated by a large window and an oculus. The portal is the statue of St. Benedict, while the sides of the arch, two angels hold miter and pastoral Puteo archbishop, who in 1579 consecrated the temple. The bell tower is Romanesque. The interior has three aisles and has remains of polychrome majolica floor. Mosaic of the eleventh century. |
