Description:
The Co-Cathedral was built in 1970 by Archbishop Guglielmo Motolese. It was designed the famous Milanese architect Giò Ponti, who directed the project and the construction also intervening in the decoration. The temple is located where the large cross between Via Dante and Via Magna Grecia, and - for his close ties with the maritime tradition of Taranto - is a symbol of the modern city. The Co-Cathedral is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, patroness of Taranto together with San Cataldo. It is considered one of the most famous monuments of the contemporary italian architecture.
