| The Castle was built roughly around 1000, in the historic town of Ruvo. The oldest part consists of a square tower of Norman and three-body, lower. The south side overlooks what is now Piazza Matteotti.
The tower has small openings at the West for control of the Trajan way from Canosa.
Currently, through the Arch of Melodia, you enter the lobby where you can see the stairs leaning against the tower and a pointed arch of the thirteenth century, now walled up. In the late Middle Ages the castle was located inside the city walls.
In the fourteenth century was added to the Tower of Pilate.
In the fifteenth century it was realized the gunboat, which still exists. In the sixteenth century was turned into a ducal residence of the Carafa family. In 1809 and in 1811 the Carafa gave the Oriental garden and the castle to Cesare Montaruli for the construction of the Palace of Princess Melodia, which stands to the east of the tower.
