This town was founded in the XV century by a group of those Albanian colons that was in this area called "Albania of the Salento". The rich cultural background of this people has survived until the last century. There were liturgical and oriental rites concerning traditions and also the language. Monteparano is a little agricultural centre only 15 km far away from Taranto and lays on a plain at 130 meters above sea level. The great central square is dominated by the Castello d'Ayala.
