| The Marunada Chestnut Festival has occurred in Lovran since 1973 and is a traditional gastronomic occasion. The town is famed for its sweet fruits such as figs and sweet chestnuts and it’s only fair to have a festival dedicated to them. Writers have mentioned the quality of the fruit in their writings. You will find the chestnuts classed as branac (which have fallen from the trees and thus collected) and dubenac (shaken from the tree and then de-shelled). The festival is in mid October.
