Feast of Saint Demetrius, the memory of death and suffering of a great champion of Christianity, is celebrated today as a holiday commanding Serbian Orthodox Church and patron of many Orthodox believers. On this holiday, the Serbian people known as Mitrovdan, mentions the death of the saint who is the life ending 306th in prison years where he was detained, denouncing obedience persecutors of Christians.
According to legend, the saint Demetrius was born and lived in Thessaloniki, and Emperor Maximillian (240-310) appointed him as the Duke, hoping his loyalty to the persecution of Christians. |
