The Palace of Serbia (Serbian: Palata Srbija), used to be the seat of the Council of the Republic of Serbia. Between 2003. and 2006. it was the seat of the Council of Ministers of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. The building was constructed 1959. in the mixed stripped down classicist (the main structure) and modernist (the glass domed great hall with front entrance) architectural styles. Common misconception about it being in socialist realism/stalinist style is due to lack of such buildings in Belgrade in general. Since the independence of Serbia, June 2006, the state authorities are looking at new possibilities to use the building. Options are for the building to be the seat of the Ministry of Defense and the Presidency of the Republic Serbia.
