| n 1991, the new permanent display of the Ethnographic Museum with some 5,000 exhibits was opened in the renovated building of the Rupe (Hole) Granary. The Granary, built by the Dubrovnik government in the oldest part of town on the islet of Lave in 1590, was formerly used to store the municipal grain reserves in 15 large well-containers cut in stone on the ground floor. The original appearance of the ground floor was preserved during renovation, and three wells (holes), architecturally accentuated with rails, have been opened. The history of the building is illustrated by photographs. The permanent exhibition illustrates the cultural heritage of the Dubrovnik region - the economic and material culture is displayed on the first floor and the spiritual (customs, traditional folk costumes, folklore, textiles and lace) on the second floor. |
