The church is present in the documents from the late sixteenth century, was completely rebuilt in the nineteenth century. Between 1873 and early in 1874 work began, but after twenty years, was completed only the first part of the project. In 1888 were added to the side chapels of S. Benedict and St. Elena. In 1893 the church was completed with the external façade of neo-gothic style.
