The first Cathedral of Gravina was built in 1092 on the will of Umfrido, a Norman nobleman. This building was destroyed by a terrible earthquake in 1456 and was rebuilt during the bishop D'Aquino's episcopate. Externally the church presents three entrances: an incomplete bigger portal and two more little decorated ones. On the central front we notice a very fine rose-window. The Cathedral has got three aisles; in the middle, there is a high marble altar. A very fine choir, made of solid valnut, is endowed with a particular organ for the peculiar features of the sounds.
