| The complex was built thanks to the Dominicans, at the beginning of the 16th century, on the first architectonic centre comprising San Rocco church, which is nowadays still represented by a 17th-century statue made of painted stone. After 1727 the church façade was totally rebuilt in stone and tufa, although the decoration of the higher section was not completed. In 1949, thanks to the support received from the Municipal Government, a moral body was created, which collected and kept an important historical archive and a considerable library: at the moment 64,000 books are kept together with a relevant collection of paintings from the 16th, 17th and 18th century. |
