| By the Loggia is the Clock Tower. It stands above the endowment church of St. Sebastian (sv. Sebastian), protector from the plague that often ravaged the city. To the right of the church's door is the pillory with remains of the original chains. Old Christian Chapel of St. Mary (sv. Marija Rotunde) was entered from the church of St. Sebastian. It was knocked down in 1833, and its foundations were recently partly reconstructed. The Church of St. John the Baptist (sv. Ivan Krstitelj) is in the immediate vicinity of the city square. It was built by the Benedictines next to their abbey in the 13th century Romanesque style. The triple bell-cot was added a century later, when the abbey was taken over by the Franciscans. |
