| The modern day Piazza dei Templi Romani, in the city centre, was once the religious and civic centre of ancient Teate. Three Tempietti, rebuilt in the Imperial Age, are visible here, built over the "opus quadratum" structures of an older place of workship site annexed to a deep sacred well. The area remained sacred over the centuries with the consecration of the church of Santi Pietro e Paolo, whose existence on the site of the main temple has been documented since the end of the 8th C. AD. The three temples facing southeast towards the square of the old forum, still feature striking wall finishes with stone and brick segments, and courses of thick bricks with the stone and marble slab cladding. |
