| The Castle of Barletta is on the edge of town of Barletta. It was founded by the Normans in the eleventh century and was originally surrounded by the waters of the Adriatic. It was enlarged and modified several times over the centuries, first by Frederick II and Charles II in 1291 and finally to Charles V in 1532. In this project dates back to the current structure, adapted to the new firearms: a square, large courtyard, protected by large sharp spear bastions, with two floors of the casemates circular and hemispherical, guns and wide ditch. Today the castle hosts cultural events and impromptu and permanent seat of the Municipal Library and Museum, which includes several art collections - the collection De Nittis and other, including that of ancient and medieval tombstones where stands the supposed bust of Frederick II depicted as an ancient Roman emperor.
