| Poklad Carnival is celebrated every year for a weekend around Shrove Tuesday. It is thought to be focused around a historical event where Catalan pirates attacked Korcula and Lastovo was asked to surrender. Women and children prayed for help and a storm appeared destroying the Catalan fleet. In the carnival a straw puppet is burnt representing the messenger who asked Lastovo town to surrender and a sword dance is performed. |
